Max was getting inside his head and he couldn't stop her. Of all of them he'd thought she'd understand why this had to be done, and why it had to be this way. So why didn't she?

He wasn't killing himself; that was laughable.

He was laying a trail for the Lady so she would know.

She needed to know it was he who made her strong. Then she could protect him.

He gave them his mark to make them worthy; and because he'd made her strong she would protect them because of it.

Ben knew it made perfect sense.
