Winter came hard that year, the old folks died – some of the young ones too. Families mourned, the world moved on.

Nothing marked that winter out as anything special; no one walked on the moon or impeached a President. Nothing world-shattering happened.

But Lindsey's world changed forever on the coldest New Year of his life. Standing over the freshly filled graves that held the pitiful remains of his family, he promised he'd make it out of his hometown.

Holland clapped him on the shoulder and passed him the contract. Lindsey signed his life away swearing he'd make his momma proud.
