Summary Sam is not John's youngest boy. He's Sam. And he'll shout it from the rooftops if he has to.
Spoilers pre-series. Sam leaving for Stanford.

The door slammed and he cringed at the sound. All his life he'd been taught not to draw attention, not to speak out, not to make noise. Sam scowled. Why shouldn't he make as much noise as he could?  Why couldn't he shout it from the rooftops?

He was Sam Winchester. He was not "John's kid".

He would not be his father's son and right now it was pretty damn clear that his father didn't want him around anyway.

That was fine with Sam.

"I HATE YOU!" He shouted. But only once he was sure he was out of earshot.
